TOP 5 BEERS FOR SUMMER: WITH HEAD BREWER SHAUN BLISSETT

Over at Wayward, we're diving head first into summer. That means beach, brews and best mates all season long — an Australian cliché that's all too true. In honour of our favourite time of year, we've launched heaps of go-to summertime bevvies for our punters: including our latest core range HAZY MID, our brand new W SELTZER and our seasonal favourite PASSIONISTA.

But there are plenty more beers that deserve your attention this summer, too. So, we sat down with Head Brewer Shaun Blissett to find out what he's drinking this season.

In no particular order, here are Shaun's top five brews for Summer 2020:

STOMPING GROUND — WATERMELON SMASH (sour)

"It’s a perfectly balanced, fruited gose with loads of fresh watermelon thrown in. This beer has subtle salty notes and is tart af. You'll definitely want to bring Watermelon Smash along to the beach for the hot summer days ahead."

WAYWARD —

HAZY MID (mid-strength pale ale)

"We've launched this beer into our core range just in time for summer. It's just as tasty as our full-strength hazy pale ales, packed into a 3.5% ABV beer. Hazy Mid is refreshing, full of hops and full of flavour but low on alcohol so will keep you from getting too sloshed during Christmas lunch."

SAUCE BREWING —

PISS WEAK (session IPA)

"Speaking of mid-strength brews, Sauce's Piss Weak is my other favourite low ABV beer at the moment. This session IPA is light on alcohol but doesn't compromise on big, juicy hop flavours. It's just beautiful, I fucking love it."

3 RAVENS —

RASPBERRY LEMONADE CREAMSICLE (lactose sour)

"I'm not usually one for lactose sours, but this beer is just so balanced. It's quite moreish really. Expect a buoyant palate with a lovely mouth feel and citrusy finish."

DAINTON —

APOCALYPSO II (Imperial NEIPA)

"Yes, this is an 8% NEIPA, but what a ripper of a beer. Despite its high ABV, its drink-ability is next level and makes this beer dangerously smashable. Apocalypso II took home the award for Champion Strong Beer at the 2020 Indies, too. If you see it on the shelf, just buy it. Well done to the brewers."

ANY OTHER BOOZE ADVICE FOR SUMMER?

"I went down to Cupitt's Estate the other weekend and tried their South Coast Session Ale — bloody hell, can young Liam Jackson brew a great beer. Outside of beer, W Seltzer is going to be a smasher for summer. If you haven't tried a brewed seltzer yet, it's time you get on it. There is a time and a place for beer, but there's also a time and place for seltzer — and that's all summer long."

Don't forget, you can grab tinnies of our Hazy Mid, W Seltzer and seasonal Passionista in bottle shops and venues all across Australia this summer. Click the links to find the closest retailer to you.
